About Volunteer Weekends
Volunteer Weekends at Camp Fire Camp Toccoa are an opportunity for alumni, staff and friends of camp to come together and show their dedication to the Camp Fire motto of “Give Service.” Held monthly October through May, these weekends are a fun and exciting volunteer opportunity for campers of all ages!
What to Expect
Plan to arrive by 9 am on Saturday morning to begin your project. You may also plan to arrive Friday before 9 pm and stay in our cabins, you will be asked to indicate your arrival time during registration. Lunch will be served at 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon. We will meet Saturday morning to go over projects and divide into teams to complete each project. Each team will have a leader and everyone will be able to pick which team they would like to be on. Large groups may be divided, due to a limited number or tools, etc. We will work together to get as many project completed throughout the day, often times the list is extensive!
Who Can Attend
Adults, families, individuals, college organizations, youth groups, school clubs, etc. are all welcome. Unaccompanied minors must 16 or older. Youth aged 16 & 17 must have a Volunteer Minor Waiver all others (under 16 and 18+) must have a Volunteer Waiver.
Youth (15 and under) will be under the supervision of their chaperons(s) at all times. Youth 6th grade and older should be able to work on most service projects. Other projects will be available for younger youth and their chaperons(s). Youth who complete 8 hours or more will be provided with a community service letter. Youth under 18 must have the Volunteer Minor Waiver completed prior to or upon arrival.
Lodging and Meals
Those who are registered and would like to arrive Friday evening will be provided with lodging in our heated Camp Fire Camp Toccoa cabins; a bathhouse is located nearby. You may be sharing space with other volunteers. Lunch will be served Saturday; you are welcome to bring snacks and encouraged to bring a water bottle.
What to Bring
Water bottle, long pants (required for most projects), extra clothing in case you get wet or dirty. If staying overnight: pajamas, toiletries, towel, shower shoes, bedding, flashlight, snacks, board games or other evening entertainment. Camp Fire Camp Toccoa has tools for each project but you are always welcome and encouraged to bring extra. Helpful tools include gloves, rakes, shovels, etc. Please label your items with your name.
